It will perform just as well as the V1 as far as detection and its 25% cheaper. The only things the V1 has that the 8500 doesn't is a separtate rear detector (and I'm not to worried about pigs behind me) and a direction arrow that shows where the signal is coming from. 8500 has a better multi-bogey counter (you can see the signal strength of up to 8 different signals).
They are both great radars, but for $100 bucks less...i got the 8500
